“Hypocrites get offended by the truth.” Jess C. Scott

You may have read in the news recently about the case of Kristie Higgs, a pastoral assistant at Farmor’s Academy in Gloucester, who was sacked after posting concerns on her personal Facebook page about RSE lessons at a nearby Church of England Primary School attended by her own child. Worried especially by the use of two story books promoting transgenderism, Kristie, a committed Christian, asked friends to sign a petition calling for the right of parents to have children educated in line with their religious beliefs (https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6925837/School-assistant-43-sacked-posting-petition-against-transgender-teaching-sons-school.html).

You would think that Ms Higgs had every right to express such views – she was after all worried about her child – but one of her supposed ‘friends’ then forwarded the posts anonymously to the Academy where Kristie worked, accusing her of being homophobic and prejudiced.  The result – Kristie was sacked for gross misconduct liable to harm the school’s reputation.

On any scale this kind of pro-LGBT intimidation is surely a travesty of justice, and we read with interest an article looking at the legal implications, written by senior lawyer Professor Andrew Tettenborn, and posted by Rebel Priest (https://www.julesgomes.com/single-post/Farmors-School-acts-like-Victorian-employer-by-sacking-Kristie-Higgs).  Imagine then our shock and horror when we discovered – from a screen shot taken of the post – that the petition in question was one of ours (https://vfjuk.org/news-updates/uphold-the-right-of-parents-to-have-children-educated-in-line-with-their-religious-beliefs/)!

VfJUK upholds Christian belief as set down in the Bible, but we also pride ourselves on standing on the law and the facts, and we never knowingly insult, disdain, or disparage anyone.    We believe in truth and justice, and believe that everyone, as made in the image of God, is worthy of respect.  But that same approach seemingly does not hold good for LBGT activists and their followers, who apparently regard the suppression and silencing of Christians as totally acceptable.  Such attacks are clear evidence of bigotry and intolerance.

In a recent speech following the Sri Lankan atrocities, Prime Minister Theresa May said, ‘For many Christians around the world… simple acts of faith can bring huge danger… That is why the Home Office has launched a global review into the persecution of Christians.  We must stand up for the right of everyone, no matter what their religions, to practise their faith in peace.’ (https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/sri-lanka-attacks-post-colonial-guilt-stops-uk-helping-persecuted-christians-says-bishop-35p8p8r25).

VfJUK asks, what about the persecution being practiced against Christians in this country?  What about our right, Prime Minister, to practise our faith in peace?

It is not acceptable that one small part of the population, however strident, should be able to intimidate, bully, and criminalise Christians into silence.  It is not acceptable that that same minority should be allowed to ride roughshod over our Christian heritage and traditions, and to impose their rebranded and highly risky morality onto everyone else.  It is not acceptable that our children should be put at risk in order to validate adult sexual choice.

None of this is acceptable….  How long before the manifestation of belief in this country becomes a criminal offence?

“We must stand up for the right of everyone, no matter what their religions, to practise their faith in peace.”   Prime Minister, stand by your words, and stop the alarming and growing suppression of Christian belief.  Stop gagging free speech.
