Of all species, it would seem that only humankind has a sense of the transcendent woven into the core of its being, forming indeed a part of our DNA. This is evident from even before the start of recorded history, when our ancestors roamed the earth as hunter-gatherers in tribal groups, bound together by blood, and supporting and protecting one another in what was often a harsh and cruel environment. But then gradually, a change started to occur. Hunting began to give way to agriculture, and men and women began to adopt a more settled form of life, establishing settlements that relied on farming, and that allowed them to gather and live in larger groups, with rules and a more clearly defined hierarchy. This was the beginning of society as we know it, and wherever there are signs of early life, more often than not we find signs of worship – of local spirits, of ancestors, of the Sun, the Moon … Without exception, worship of what were thought to be powerful, disembodied beings, whose favour needed to be sought in order to keep misfortune at bay.
Integral to these early forms of worship was, we know, the concept of sacrifice – of grain, fruit, or even perhaps weapons … of anything held to be of value. Most potent of all, without question, was the sacrifice of blood. As result of the Fall, men and women were separated from God, but we had been created as enfleshed, spiritual beings, in God’s own image, to live in direct relationship with Himself, and that hunger for connection with the transcendent persisted. Indeed, it was that hunger that Satan exploited, diverting the worship owed to God onto Himself. And as result of that worship, the demonic hold grew ever stronger … till God’s own Son came and, once and forever, blasted that hold to smithereens, restoring us to that relationship with God for which we had been created.
In the Bible, we read that, after the Fall, God’s chosen people, along with the rest of humanity, also fell prey to the demonic demand for worship. They worshipped their ancestors and offered sacrifices on the high places, and it was a long and painful road for them to discover the truth – of who God was, and what it was He really required. From the start, they knew that God forbade the unlawful killing of another (Genesis 4: 8-14), alongside which the Jewish people pretty soon learned that human sacrifice was prohibited, and most especially child sacrifice, much beloved by their pagan neighbours (Leviticus 20: 1-5).
Abortion, the killing of the unborn, is a form of child sacrifice. It has fed this nation’s increasing worship of the great god Self and has allowed a spirit of death to take hold. The confusion and violence evident on our streets is testament to the moral vacuum and decay that today lies at the heart of our society.
Under an amendment to the Crime and Policing Bill, put forward by Labour MP Tonia Antoniazzi, it is proposed that women will no longer face prosecution if they terminate their pregnancy after 24 weeks, with or without approval from two doctors. A separate amendment put forward by Stella Creasey MP would go even further, making abortion ‘a human right’, up to birth. Both amendments signal a seismic change in our attitude to life. From the moment of conception, a human being is fully ‘there’. All that needs to happen is for the baby – and that is what it is – to grow. At six weeks its heartbeat is detectable; at fifteen weeks an ultrasound shows the baby sucking its thumb. At twenty two weeks, it is capable of independent existence, with help, outside the mother’s womb. Yet now, as a society, we are proposing that it be legal to end the life of the unborn up to birth. Why stop there?
Let us be clear, abortion is the taking of innocent life. It is murder. It separates us from God.
Whichever amendment is accepted, it is clear that a demonic spirit is seeking to consolidate, even further, the stranglehold of death. At all costs this move must be resisted. For the survival of our nation – and indeed of humanity as a whole – men and women must reject the narcissistic blandishments of personal human rights – the so-called right to choose – and opt instead for duty and responsibility towards others. We do not have the right to kill, simply because others cannot adequately defend themselves.

The Assisted Dying Bill – voting on Friday showed the Bill is rapidly losing the confidence of MPs!
Of chief concern to MPs appears to be the clear lack of safeguards for the vulnerable, though Labour proposer Kim Leadbeater is reported to remain confident.
The final vote is now scheduled for Friday, 20th June. It will determine whether assisted dying is a step closer to becoming law, or whether it will be thrown out entirely.
Still time to contact your MP and let him or her know your concerns.
