It’s official – there are no grooming gangs in London

At least, that’s what London mayor Sadiq Khan claims.  In a report by the Express, Khan is quoted as saying, “there are no reported cases and also no indication of grooming gangs in London.”

However, in the same article, former Met police officer Jon Wedger says there is clear evidence of high-level grooming gang activity, and that while still a serving police officer he amassed a veritable trove of evidence of child sexual exploitation and abuse that went far beyond levels seen in places such as Rotherham and Rochdale.  He said, “(I) … uncovered kids from the age of nine to 14 that were being trafficked for prostitution on an industrial scale …”.  Shockingly, however, Wedger was ordered to drop his investigations, and threatened that if he persisted or even mentioned what he’d uncovered, he would lose his home, job, and children.

Similar tactics were of course initially employed in Rochdale and Rotherham, when evidence of the grooming gangs first came to light.  Police, we are told, were fearful of accusations of racism, and so to avoid that … did nothing.  But why, when the problems posed by Asian grooming gangs have now been widely acknowledged, should this policy of deliberate stonewalling still persist in London?  What makes the capital so special, that the public should be encouraged to buy into the lie that it’s immune from such abhorrent exploitation.

When allegations of such abuse were recently put to him, Sadiq Khan again denied there was any cause for concern within the capital, while a spokesperson announced, “These accusations are false, malicious, and politically motivated. The mayor is committed to doing everything in his power to build a safer London for everyone and has always been clear that all violence against women and girls must be treated with the utmost urgency – both by our police and society as a whole.”

Fine sentiments, but Wedger says he has evidence of children, both boys and girls, being trafficked for sex in central London and taken on a daily basis to upmarket Arab restaurants around Mayfair, where they would be traded for as much as £2,000 each.  If true, this is shocking and the perpetrators must be stopped – why then is Sadiq Khan so keen that the evidence not be properly investigated?  Is he perhaps aware who is involved?  And is he acting deliberately to stifle enquiry?  Whatever the reason, this is not protecting the best interests and safety of Londoners, and Sadiq Khan should go!  There must be a proper and rigorous investigation, whenever such allegations are made, in order that the truth be established and potentially vulnerable children be protected from harm.
