News came in the press last week of the appointment of an interim chairman for Ofsted, the schools’ regulatory body for England, pending the permanent appointment of a successor to Dame Christine Ryan, who resigned last year following a damning review highly critical of Ofsted’s response to the suicide of Ruth Perry. In announcing the appointment of Sir Hamid Patel, Ofsted Chief Inspector Sir Martyn Oliver said, ‘He is a highly respected school and academy trust leader, knighted for his contribution to education.’
He omitted to add that, in his former role as headteacher of Tauheedul Islam Girls’ High School in Blackburn, Sir Hamid had encouraged pupils to recite the Koran at least once a week, to shun ‘un-Islamic’ images (e.g. pictures of popstars), and to wear the hijab both outside and inside school. Sir Martyn also failed to mention that, in 2010, Patel had invited a Saudi Arabian cleric named Sheik Abdul Rahman al-Sudais to visit the school, during which the visiting speaker had apparently described Jews as ‘pigs’ and led prayer for God to ‘terminate’ the Jews.
The question must surely be asked, therefore – in a globally acknowledged Christian country, how can a devout Muslim, actively promoting compliance with Islam and demonstrably antagonistic towards the Jews, be preferred, even if only interim, as Chair of the body responsible for regulating education throughout the whole of England?
VfJUK would remind Government that, for around the last 1,300 years, England has been, and still nominally remains, a Christian country. How then can we entrust oversight of education for the nation’s young to someone who, as a good Muslim, believes that other religions (and especially Christianity) are ‘either fabricated and false, or abrogated’? Someone who will also believe that all non-Muslims are consigned to the fires of hell, and that it is the religious duty of Muslims to convert, forcibly if need be, those who do not share their beliefs.
And, while followers of Mohammed may pay lip-service to tolerance, their attempts to kill those who disagree or disrespect their faith, or who convert from Islam, insult the prophet, or even merely express support for Israel – as evidenced in the increasing number of attacks being recorded on all counts in this nation and across the world – give the lie to any such claim.
Viewed in this light, the interim appointment of Sir Hamid as Chair of the regulatory body for schools and higher education in England is not just misguided, but dangerous, because it will be seen as active support for activist Muslims seeking to extend their influence and impose Islamic supremacy. And, for those who scoff at the mere suggestion of any such aim, only consider the advertisements now appearing across London, promoting Islam and calling on people to trust Allah.
As a sop no doubt to white, Christian sensibilities, we are assured that Sir Hamid has vowed to help white working-class boys, of whom six out of seven, he says, will fail GCSE Maths and English. He has labelled this a national disgrace, as indeed it is. But is this really sufficient counter to his unashamed and explicit promotion of Islam? Let it not be forgotten that the similar appointment of a Christian would never be allowed in a Muslim country and, when we allow this appointment, temporary though it may be, we are complicit in actively spreading a religion that at heart is hostile to our identity, our culture and our values.
For the protection of our children, our culture, our laws and national identity, this unwise nomination must not be permitted to continue.
