Storm forecast, warning Red

This week sees the release in the UK of a new film, Pressure, telling the story of meteorologist Captain James Stagg and the crucial 72 hours leading up to the D Day landings, that heralded the liberation of Europe.  US General Eisenhower had apparently wanted the invasion to go ahead on Monday, 5^th June, but Stagg argued against this, forecasting violent storms that would prevent the troops from landing and lead to huge numbers of deaths.  Reluctantly, Eisenhower agreed, but Stagg was proved right.  The weather on 5^th June was atrocious and any attempted invasion would have failed.  But conditions the following day, though not ideal, were much improved, allowing the invasion to go ahead.  Most especially, the rough seas became calm – and the D Day landings marked the turning point of the war.

What the film does not include is the Day of Prayer called for by the King ahead of the Normandy landings, praying for the liberation of Europe.  Without divine intervention, the invasion would have gone ahead on the 5^th June, and it would have failed. Britain would have been lost.  But God heard the prayers of His people, and acted to still the storm.  He delivered and helped us.   And He can and will do so again, if we will only repent.

The wartime days of prayer are both an example and call from God to us today.  The UK is under threat as never before, facing enemies from both within and without.  The truth is that, as a nation, we have lost our way, and the dogs are gathering to attack and destroy.

We face war, and our only hope of coming through this – and even of survival – is God.  He is our strength and deliverer in times of trouble, and He stands now ready to help … if we will only repent.

But if we refuse, and persist in our rejection, idolatry and rebellion, the darkness that approaches will surely overwhelm us.  For the salvation of the people, the Church in this land must once again recover its voice and shepherd the flock – and men and women must once again acknowledge Christ as our Saviour and Sovereign Lord, and cry out to Him for help.

We’re asking people to commit to praying for 15 minutes every Friday at a regular time of their choosing.  Every week we’ll be sending out, in advance, a prayer bulletin with three suggested areas for prayer that week.

Please be aware, this is spiritual warfare, and in battle, without proper preparation, there are always casualties.  We are anxious that all who take part, and their families, should be kept safe, so everyone who signs up will be assigned a named Prayer Buddy, for whom they will be asked to pray daily blessing and protection.  Like a Roman shield wall, we are aiming, as we advance, to protect each other from enemy attack.

This is very important.  How much contact you have with your prayer buddy – and you might like to pray together via WhatsApp or Zoom, or, equally, have no one-to-one contact at all – will be completely up to you, but as a minimum, we are going to ask you to pray for each other every day – to shield ourselves as we join together in prayer on Fridays.

We are currently matching people up with their Prayer Buddies and shall be starting shortly.  Meanwhile, if you haven’t yet signed up and want to take part, please register today, letting us know the time you prefer.

Urgent Appeal!

Fighting to defend Christian Belief and values in the UK, VfJUK is in urgent need of help. We have currently enough money to survive for one more month – but we believe our work is vital, commissioned by God Himself.
