The BBC – the (hopelessly) Biased Broadcasting Corporation – is once again under fire for its seemingly sectarian commissioning of the documentary, Gaza: How to survive a war zone. Hoyo Films, the Production Company behind the £400,000 programme, used as narrator a 14 year-old boy named Abdullah … who is now revealed to be the son of Hamas Deputy Agriculture Minister, Ayman Al-Yazouri. A substantial sum of money for his services was apparently paid to the boy’s mother, through the bank account of his sister – who, surprise, surprise, has been fulsome in her praise for the attacks on Israel. It is of course illegal to give money to terrorist organisations, and Hoyo Films have insisted no money was paid to Hamas, but how far can this be relied upon? Can we really believe that Al-Yozouri – and through him, Hamas – has had no access to the money? Or was this, from the start, an ill-managed whitewash designed to deflect attention?
The BBC has apparently launched a full investigation into the affair, with the aim of determining any failings on the part of Corporation staff. This, however, is patently not good enough. For months – even years – there has been clear evidence of increasing anti-semitism and systemic bias in the BBC’s programming policy and news reporting. To have any hope of establishing the truth, there needs, therefore, to be an independent inquiry. Something even called for by Danny Cohen, the BBC’s former Head of television, who said, “The BBC must allow a full independent inquiry to investigate the processes that led to this documentary being produced, and the pervasive anti-Israel bias that allowed it to pass through the system unobstructed.”
The BBC was once the envy of the world for its clear and objective reporting of world events. It was a body that could be relied upon for its commitment to truth and impartial and fair-minded analysis. But not any more. Today, the misleadingly named British Broadcasting Corporation has been taken over by ideologically driven activists determined to re-shape British culture and society, stifling anything in conflict with their preferred socio-political narrative. It is no longer fit for purpose, and the licence fee should be scrapped.
