The puzzling case of Tommy Robinson, and the reality of freedom in the UK today

I freely admit, I am no expert in matters relating to Tommy Robinson, and VfJUK does not and cannot condone violence.  I know next to nothing of the events surrounding the showing of the film for which Robinson was gaoled, but I have been puzzled in recent days to read that he has been granted early release from prison, only to be summoned to reappear in court on 5th June to answer further charges of harassment causing fear of violence, allegedly committed between 5th and 7th August 2024 against two Daily Mail journalists.

My puzzlement arises from the fact that the alleged offence was in August last year, in which case, why were the charges not brought when he was already facing a charge for contempt, after repeating allegedly false claims against a Syrian refugee?  Or, failing that, why weren’t they brought while he was serving his time in prison?  Both would have been normal practice and surely, in these times when the prison system seems on the point of collapse, a better use of court time?  As it is, releasing him, only to summon him to appear in court straight after, feels oppressively vindictive.  It feels like there is an agenda at work and that the powers that be are deliberately trying to suppress him.

As I understand it, the reason for the new charge is that he posted photographs of the said journalists on line – which admittedly is something he shouldn’t have done.  But if Tommy Robinson is being charged, why have the journalists also not been charged, because it appears that only days before Robinson posted the photos, they had published his address and location on social media, causing genuine distress and fear to his family?  Indeed, Tommy Robinson’s actions appear to have been done in retaliation, provoked by anger on behalf of his family – so why is he being charged, but not the journalists, whose actions, indeed, were arguably more serious?

In similar vein, take the case of Lucy Connelly, the 41-year-old mother sentenced to 31 months in prison for incitement to racial hatred, after briefly posting an admittedly offensive tweet calling for mass deportation of asylum seekers, following the murder of three girls in Southport by self-confessed Islamist Axel Rudakubana.  The tweet was clearly intemperate and should not have been posted, but in the immediate aftermath of the murders, emotions were running high, and Lucy Connelly, still grieving the loss of her own son some years before, was deeply affected.  Within hours, she herself recognised that the tweet was offensive and that she should have kept silent, and she removed the tweet and subsequently apologised.  Why was she then subjected to so draconian a sentence?

The tweet was clearly a heat of the moment response, quickly regretted, and it was extremely unlikely, one would have thought, actually to have provoked violence – especially given the high number of enraged comments and ‘false’ assertions flying round.  Let us be clear, it was a confusing and confused time for pretty well everyone – and not helped by misinformation being peddled by news outlets, who variously reported Rudakubana was a Muslim asylum seeker, who had come to this country illegally, by boat; that he was a Christian, born in Cardiff, who’d sung in the local choir (butter wouldn’t melt); and that he was autistic.  The truth is he was of Rwandan extraction and had been born in Cardiff, but had moved with his family to Southport some years previously, after they were granted asylum.  It is also true that he was obsessed with genocide and had been reported three times prior to the stabbings to Prevent, while from social media posts put up by himself (which subsequently mysteriously ‘disappeared’), we also know that he was a self-proclaimed Muslim.

Add to these cases the increasing number of incidents concerning Christians being charged with hate crimes for quoting from the Bible, for praying silently outside an abortion facility, or even just wearing a cross, and it begins to feel uncomfortably like an orchestrated but covert campaign to intimidate and suppress any who dare question the UK’s new value – or lack thereof – system.  It feels in fact as if we really do have a two-tier justice system operating in this country, with anyone not fully supportive of alternative faith and Woke values being wilfully targeted and suppressed.

With the country plunging ever deeper into chaos and mindless violence, the result of present policies appear all too clear.  The truth is, there is something rotten at the heart of the UK, that is spreading its poison like some kind of suppurating, gangrenous contagion, killing off all we hold dear.  Only radical surgery can now help stem the putrefaction that is affecting the body and soul of our nation.  If we fail to challenge those seeking to reconfigure our society – before the rot spreads too far – we become complicit in our own destruction.

The Assisted Dying Bill scheduled to return to the House of Commons on Friday, 13th June

This dangerous and pernicious Bill passed its second reading by 55 votes.  To defeat the Third Reading, all it needs is for 28 MPs to switch their stance.  Already we are seeing increased unease over the Bill’s poor drafting and inadequate safeguards – there is truly all to play for.

Assisted Dying, if passed, will inevitably open the door to State-sanctioned culling of the elderly  and vulnerable.  Say NO today.
