Under our new government, it would seem that pro-death activists are finally getting their way. From 31 October, buffer zones will come into force round all abortion facilities in England and Wales, making it an offence to protest, hand out anti-abortion leaflets or literature, or in any way obstruct anyone seeking to use, or working at, such facilities within a 150-metre radius. Those convicted of an offence will face an unlimited fine.
To unpack this in a little more detail, under the new law, it will be illegal for ‘anyone to do anything that intentionally or recklessly influences someone’s decision to use abortion services, obstructs them, or causes harassment or distress to someone using or working at these premises.’
Which sounds jolly comprehensive, but pro-abortion campaigners are apparently still not satisfied and have expressed concern that ‘silent prayer’ might still be allowed. It will be remembered that, earlier this year, Isabel Vaughan-Spruce was awarded £13,000 compensation from West Midlands police for wrongful arrest, after praying silently outside a closed clinic. This, activists say, must never happen again!
Against all reason, this seems to be a view shared by the Home Office, which has assured the militants that they fully expect silent prayer to fall within the restriction – meaning that anyone having the temerity to ‘pray’ within the zones will now be guilty of a criminal offence.
How are they going to police this, I wonder? And if I perhaps, walking inadvertently through one of the zones, should chance unthinkingly to pray about the state of the nation … will I too be guilty of an offence?
Addressing campaigner concerns, Safeguarding Minister Jess Phillips commented: “The right to access abortion services is a fundamental right for women in this country, and no-one should feel unsafe when they seek to access this … We will not sit back and tolerate harassment, abuse and intimidation as people exercise their legal right to healthcare.”
Cut through all the verbiage about women’s reproductive rights and what this actually means is that, for the first time in the history of the UK, it will be an offence even to entertain thoughts that do not agree with, or are critical of, the prevailing Weltanschauung, irrespective of the basis for such a stance. Dig a little deeper, and it means that there is now no right to life, no freedom of belief, and no free speech. Instead, all are subordinated to the demands of a sexually permissive, coercive State, that has made a god of ‘choice’, rebranding ‘bad’ as ‘good’, and ‘good’ as ‘bad’.
Where will these new so-called freedoms end?
The truth is, we are becoming a degenerate, disease-ridden, mentally unstable and therapy obsessed society, where ‘fulfilment’ hovers eternally out of reach on some far horizon, like some elusive and unattainable chimera. If we can only have more ‘diverse’ sex, we say, if we can only kill more babies … if we can put an end to suffering …
The ever-increasing attempt to police and control our behaviour and thoughts is a direct attack on the fundamental freedoms of belief and speech that up to now have defined our society. The endeavour by coercive ideologues to restrict those freedoms in furtherance of their agenda should concern us all. Such behaviour has no place in a civilised society. It has no place in the UK, and must be resisted.

Call to fast and pray
Saturday, 5th October, 10.00 – 12.30
The UK is in crisis and the fate of our nation hangs in the balance.
Our values, who we are … our very survival! For the first time in our history, law is being used as a weapon to suppress truth.
The real ‘truth’ is that we are in a spiritual battle and have fallen victim to those seeking to destroy the foundations of our society and impose totalitarian control. Only God can help us. Only God can deliver us from this evil attack … But God cannot and will not bless sin.
To receive the help He longs to give, God is calingl us to renounce our wickedness and repent. If we do, then He promises that He Himself will go before us and fight for us … and we shall see miracles beyond all our imagining.
Please join us, via Zoom, to fast and pray for the salvation and deliverance of our nation.
Join us to pray for the renewal of the Church.
